Glass Photoshop

1.For my first image I chose to apply as many filters and effects on this image and see how each looked on a photograph. The first thing I did to this image was crop the photo down so that the circle was the main focus and what the viewers focused on.  Doing this allowed all the good aspects to be included and the foreground object were included in the central frame. When editing these first choices influenced how I edited and changed the look of the photograph. My editing was also subject to the colour in the images as I wanted to make the colour prominent.  Another idea I have for this image it to place some object from another photo I have and make it the central focus.  There are ways this idea may not be a success as it may look a bit over edited and the photo I use may not fit with the tone or style of the rest of the photograph. The object may also look not right or weird when placed into the circle. The second effect I applied was the liquify tool to change the way the objects looked, I didn't want the shape I created to be completely crazy or unusual so much that it overwhelms anything else in the image. This is why I mainly experimented with the edges of the circle to create the illusion of a cog wheel or a sun. Another way I could experiment with this technique by make the lines on the glass I could make them more disjointed and broken like glass can be.  After changing the main look of the items in the image I then adjusted the colour of the image to make the colours I want to stand out and make the viewers attention directed towards the parts that include the colour. When looking at the image the main colour I saw was blue and I wanted to bring it out more and apply effects to make it vibrant. The final edit which is using the equalize tool and the effect that has been created changed the way the colour looked on the image this something I don't like as it altered the film to a slight extreme, however before the I applied the effect I liked how the image looked and the colour is on the image.  When editing the image I decided to apply a filter called cutout and this is shown in the fifth image and in the final photo after all these edits.

2. This is my second image where the first edit I did was apply the equalizer which created the effect shown in the first screen shot below. For this image I want to create an subtle and creative effect for a final photograph.  I achieved this by adjusted the colour using the colour balance and using this tool until I had the desired look.  The third image shows the results when I altered and mixed the hue/ saturation and after I did this I thought it was too over edited then I altered it again and got a look I liked. I then added the effect of variations and got the look shown in fourth image I liked how when I did this the colours in the image became vibrant and an interesting point in the image. After this alteration I had to change the contrast and brightness to make the overall look of the image more creative and appealing. Using the colour balance again let me picked the colour I wanted to shine through the image , this time it was yellow as even though I like the blue the yellow is covering the most of the image and creates an interesting image. I picked yellow to be main colour shown however I also wanted blue to be a part of the photo which was also possible with this effect. The main focus of the final image is to have interesting colours

3. This was the most easy Photoshop edit / creation to make as the most I had to do was cut and paste one object into another object. I decided to place a rose in the bottle as to pay homage to beauty and the beast and to also create artist images. To begin with I placed the glass bottle image into Photoshop and then I placed the object I want to place in the bottle and then cut out the object and then move the object so it looks like its in the bottle. To get the best final result I turned down the opacity ro make it look like the object is behind the glass.

4.

I had experimented the most with this image as I focused the overall look of the image, the first thing I did was apply the filter cutout then I applied an effect/ filter that makes the image look water colored.  I liked experimenting as I got to apply effects and create images I haven't had the chance to create before.  This picture was taken during my Christmas break on a mucky mirror I found and decided I could apply effects in Photoshop to change the entire look of the image. Apply the water colour effect made it look creative and unusual. I also attempted to dim and lower the exposed part but above is the best I could do which I find semi successful.

5.
The photo above was also taken on Christmas break in my own time, I applied the filter above to highlight the light parts are where the light was. Doing this makes the inner rim look golden and stand out in the image and is the main focus of the image.

Christmas glass

The two images shown above are the two from the glass Christmas task that I liked the most. I applied many effects in Photoshop to both these images. Yellow is consistent in both images and is an point in both images where the viewers attention is directed to. Applying a filter to the first image was an my artistic choice as I experimented to see how filters would effect my work. For the second image I blurred the area around the tree to make sure the tree was the main focus of the image.  On both images I adjusted the levels and mixed the colour balance to achieve the images shown above. One part of the first image I didn't like was the over exposed part on the glass as it distracts the viewer and is something that stands out which I find non appealing. This I believe worked in my favor in the second image as the parts are smaller and make your eyes going around the tree which is what I want to achieve with the image, however I have a slight criticism as the Tv shown is something my attention  is directed towards.

Health and safety in dark room

Main points of safety
1. Not pregnant when present in dark room
2. Don't drink the chemicals
3.Don't dip hands in chemicals
4. Don't leave bags on the floor as this could cause a tripping hazard
5. No lose clothing or accessories

The two main concerns are the rule about not being pregnant and not to drink the chemicals as they could cause serious problems. Both of these could effect your body and damage you seriously. All of these rules can be avoided with common sense. They all revolve around the chemicals as they can be dangerous especially if ingested.  The main solution to the majority of the problems that would occur is seek medical attention. Leaving bags on the floor is also another serious concern as in a small place the consequences of someone tripping could be disastrous. The rule of lose clothing is because the articles of clothing could land in the chemicals and then the chemicals transfer to other items. These rules are put in place so that people using the dark room are safe and their items are safe as well.

Comparison of shoots

My favorite shoot out of black and white shoot, colour film shoot and digital, this is because from the digital shoot I got most of my successful images.  This is either the glass bottle digital shoot or the outdoors Leeds shoot. Every photo shoot was easy to complete as I had the props and easy access to each location which allowed mt to take my time while photographing. When on location I looked for anything I could see which is glass and interesting and would look appealing in a photograph.  In every shoot I had complete control over the settings on my camera which allowed me to have control on how my images turned out when using the digital method. I had a bit of trouble when photographing with the film cameras as it was a new camera I was using and I've shown camera shake in some of my images.  All the photo shoots were fun and made me see my surroundings in a new way, as nearly every building I came across was mostly glass which shows me how the modern era has changed the way people in the architect world updated themselves.  For my colour negative shoot I picked out vibrant colours that would pop on the image and stand out to viewers, this would hopeful make my images appealing and eye catching. My intent when on location during a shoot was always to capture interesting objects which helps me have the potential to create effective and successful images. As all the shoots were completed and started during the winter I was wrapped warm and I kept my equipment safe on every shoot.

Glass bottles

When doing this project I threw my all into it as I got the chance to work in the studio and create artistic and unusual final images. To complete this I took some of my old images , the apple and the rose, this allowed me to add an creative twist and an aspect to the original idea we were given. When we were given the brief I was thinking of many way I could position the model and how I would convey my ideas onto my images.  I included the blurry photo of the model as I thought it would add an creative aspect to the image it helped create. Not including a image of the girl trying to escape the bottle as I wanted it to look like the person was comfortable inside the bottle.  To achieve the final images I used Photoshop and images I have captured previously and used the skills I have to create the images above. Two reasons why the bottle looks different in the examples shown is because the position I was in when I took the picture changed and I was experimenting with the settings on my camera. When I was photographing in the studio I used the manual setting on my camera.

photographic processes labtories in yorkshire

1. Proam offer a high quality as they have been given awards for the prints they produce, They offer a service where prints can be done in either 24 hours or less if requested. This time frame is very useful as it gives students the opportunity to get final prints within a few days. The reason the prices are so low is because proam as the clients to prepare the images and chose the settings. Other things proam do is develop film for £2 a roll and they can also place images onto a canvas if requested. I have placed a screen shot showing the price range for digital prints. Every occasion where I was either requested or personally wanted to print my images I have used proam as I believe they are a good quality service for a reasonable price.

2. York digital image use a high quality process to create images that appealing to customers. Before printing the company also edits the images by applying colour correction and brightness adjustments which allow for the best prints to be produced.  This would explain why the prices are higher then proam however they do seem to have the same time frame as proam.  Even though this is a more expensive method I believe the quality would be worth the price.

Project evaluation

I found this project very interesting and photographing glass has allowed me to experiment with my camera and the settings used. If I were to pick a part of this project I didn't like it would have to be the film part of even though I like the results of film I do like using film cameras.  The images I got from using a film camera were not a the same quality I can normally produce, and after doing this project I will experiment more with my film camera so that I can develop my skills. An idea that I've wanted to experiment with is placing objects and people into another place and I was allowed to do this in this project. When I was presented with the subject of glass and to me glass is fragile and used for things we see in everyday. As most glass is transparent I wanted to include other objects with vibrant and appealing colours so that I get interesting points in my photographs. The techniques we were asked to produce in Photoshop were easy to do and I enjoyed changing and experimenting with my images.  Normally using the liquify tool for photos is commonly not used as people like to view images which look normal. I also altered the colours in some of my images to a degree more extreme then I would normally. One of the task I didn't like was trying to find glass objects in Bradford and the reason is because I have photographed Bradford for two years and I want a new scenery. However I was able to photograph interesting objects and create unique and creative final images both with and without effects.  During this project I was inspired by the work of Andy Glass and Eric Johnson as both of their work is interesting, I like how Andy glass work is simple and includes bright and inventive colours. Eric's work is opposite as it has a lot of elements that go together to create an image. Looking at the work they have produced influenced my ideas and photos, I wanted to showcase the unusual and vibrant style and colours. Overall I enjoyed the project and found the subject interesting, my favorite part was experimenting with Photoshop and creating visually unique images.
